Baptised ?  daughter -   married to Robert Ollenshaw

Total children: 7. In Henry's Will 5 surviving mentioned (excluding a deceased daughter son-in-law in place & son Philip deceased).

Daughters: Sarah Stroud, Ann Wardlow and  another married to Robert Ollrenshaw, Christian names not mentioned in the will.

Henry was living and farming at Lower Eaves farm. It states many times in the Parish Records of Henry of Eaves. along with Henry's father Phillip. The Eaves farm is mentioned in 'Braylesford Buntings book, page 147.  as being 'in the possession of the Marchington family in 1798 for more than a 150 years'.
Henry died in Sept 1748 as detailed in Dr Cleggs diary.  page. 685.14 Jul  & 691. 18 Sept.   Henry's wife Sarah died in Dec 1754 age 89.  as mention in Dr Cleggs diary page. 874 . 14  Dec,   875. 27 Dec &  876. 6 Jan

He left a Will. In it it an inventory total sum £32, 7s 5d . Wife Sarah mentioned Children: Thomas, Henry, John   son in law Robert Ollenshaw, daughter Sarah Stroud, Ann Loasdlow.

Henry signed the will in his own hand very shaky hand writing but clear and neat, spelling it without the G.

Therory
Old Henry may have divided the Eaves farm estate between them,  each farming around the Eaves - Martinside - Sittinglow area. Lower Eaves farm which is at the base of  Sittinglow adjoins Higher Eaves farm which in turns boarders Old Sittinglow farm and Halsteads farm. Dr Clegg states many times on his rounds that he visited Thomas Marchington ( The Eaves farm ), then on to Old Henry & Sarah (Martinside) then on to Henry Jnr (Sittinglow farm) & then John Marchington ( Halsteads farm). Then on to Ford Hall/ Slack Hall. It a logical journey to make,  a complete circle.  Philip isn't  mentioned in Cleggs diary.  Philip died before his father & as such is not mentioned in the will.

Thomas being the youngest,  3rd youngest son, seems to have inherited Eaves Farm, thus proving that John had established himself at Halsteads Farm and as such was considered to be financially secure by his father the same could apply to Henry who was farming at Sittinglow Farm.

The Parish book states: 1744/45 John Marchington , Church Warden brought Register with others for Parish.
The
Parish records  states: Martha, wife of John Marchington of Hauststeads in the parish of
Chapel-en-le-Frith buried as  the 13th of  April 1765.

Later on an entry in the Parish book records the following:  John Marchington farmer  from Horsestead in the Parish, buried on the 12 June 1785.
John made his will wile he was seriously ill and as such it is very basic.  Its interesting to note that Samuel was the main benefactor inheriting all the farm, stock and chattel. Joseph was given 0ne shilling along with his sister Ann. Possibly they previously had an advance. Martha and Mary were given fifty pounds each.  Thomas is not mentioned in his fathers will and as such may be the child mentioned as dying with small pox .     It seems Joseph was farming at Goyts Moss farm  near the present-day Cat & Fiddle pub being 'Derbyshire Bridge', possibly Joseph had received an advance from his father.

Samuel.1738. died 0n the 23 Jul 1787. Two years after the death of his father.
In Samuels Will he states he is sick in body and weak and he leaves no wife or heir and as such he bequeaths to his sisters Ann Walker wife of Robert Walker  a yearly sum of seven pounds for her natural life. Martha  wife of Edward Vernon the sum of twenty pounds. Mary Marchington a yearly sum of ten pounds for her natural life.  Samuels brother Joseph was given the remaining estate which comprised the whole farm being Hallsteads. Copy of Samuels Will.

Ann married Robert Walker on the 14 Oct 1766.

h1.# Mary Marchington. 1746, Chapel. had a illegitimate female child  which was baptised: Lolitia Marchington on the 19th Nov 1781 at Chinley Chapel by Rev  Harrison. Some years later  Mary married Joseph Vernon on the 9th February 1792. Joseph Vernon is stated as an executor of Mary's  nephews will being Joseph, son of brother John. Mary is mentioned in her brothers will, being Samuel, to which he left her £10 per year for her natural life in 1787.

h1.#.# Letitia Marchington.1781. Chapel. Like her mother Letitia had a illegitimate child called Sarah Marchington baptised on the 15th Dec 1805, the supposed father was Joseph Lomas. h.2.  Philip MarchingtonBpt.  24 Aug 1699. Chapel PR.  Dr Clegg mentions visiting Philip on the13 June 1737 near Martinside.  Philip must have died before his father hence why he's not featured in the Will, also he must have died without marrying or with children as any heirs would have be mentioned in his fathers Will.   Philip died of Townend  20 June 1737 PR.

h.3. Thomas Marchington. Bpt 08 Oct 1709. Chapel PR. High Eaves Farm. Married Rachael Dranfield on the 24th July 1740.

Baptised. 01 May 1741.  Thomas Marchington.           Dr.CD. page 423. Died of Small Pox. died 13 May 1747.  Dr.CD. page 605.

Baptised. 23 Feb  1747.   Thomas Marchington.          CCR. page 29.
Baptised. 11 Mar 1748.   Elizabeth Marchington.         Dr.CD. page 737.  CCR. page 29.

Rachael Dransfield died on the 25 June 1804 at Eaves farm. age 80.
Thomas seems to have gained far better than his brothers from their fathers Will. Thomas's son being Thomas Jnr. inheritated the vast majority of his fathers estate. His sister Elizabeth only gained her share of her fathers will when her brother Thomas died. So it would seem Elizabeth was financial sound and as such did not seek to take her share of the estate at that time. Upon Thomas's Jnr, death a payment was made to Elizabeth. The rest of Thomas's estate which was considerably large consisting of  tenant farms passed to his one and only daughter.

h.4.Henry Marchington. Jnr. Bpt. 27 Mar 1713. Chapel en le Frith. Not confirmed in the PR.
Henry possibly married a Mary Platt of Saddleworth, Lancs on the 1st Jan 1730.

Henry died and was buried on the 20th June  1773 of Sittinglow. PR.

Henry's wife Mary died and was buried on the 25th May 1782.

Henry left a Will which was proved on the 15th Oct 1773. at Bakewell. He signed it in his owen hand - very shaky but very neat and elaborate and legible, he spells it without the G.  Wittness being  / Dyson, Thomas Shirt & William Barker all in own hand.

I Henry Marchington of Sittinglow. :  give my  younger sons Manassah & Ephiarm £30.  To  my other sons: Henry, Philip & James 5 shillings a piece. to make provisions for Mary my wife.  John was given the Sittinglow  - Loads moor estate  absolute and had to make payments to his brothers.

h.4.1 John Marchington.1732. Sittinglow. follow link.

h.4.2. Henry Marchington.1734., Possibly married Grace Kirk on the 11 March 1753. Grace died in 1781.  Henry was of Townend and in his fathers Will it states Henry received property in Chapel. They had no children. Henry died on the 20 Dec1813 late of Town End, Chapel. In his will he left his estate to his nephews & nieces of who they were:  John Williamson, Barbara & William Potts, Thomas & Ellen  Chatterton, John Taylor, Geo' Taylor, Joseph Taylor, James Taylor, Ellen Taylor, John & Ann Arnfield. There are no Marchington nephew or nieces mentioned in the will?. It may be that he had a falling out with his side of the family and cut them out of the will?

h.4.# Sarah Marchington.1739.,  died  on the 23 June 1741.

h.4.2.3 William Marchington.1740., probably died young not record of such in parish book or Chinley chapel book or Cleggs diary.

Notes:  , John , Henry, Philip, James, Mansfred, Ephraim, ,  are the only children mention in Henry's will of  1773.

h.4.2.4  James Marchington.1737., Possibly moved to Surrey. his brother shows up there and James is mentioned in his brothers will as a cloth manufacturer and has a son Richard.

h.4.2.5  Messiah Marchington.1743. Sittinglow. It's probable that Messiah moved to the east of Manchester as this name pops up in and around the Ashton-under Lyne area.

h.4.2..6  Ephraim Marchington. 1745. Sittinglow.  There is a Will for an Ephraim proved on the 5th Feb 1787 late of Gravel lane Surrey. Ephraim's signs his name without the G but in the body of the text it's spelt with the g. He mentions a child called Ann Lovett and set outs a sum of £140 to support Ann until she reaches the age of 21 her mother being Mary  Lovett, possible a love child. If Ann should die he leaves his estate to his brother James cloth manufacturer of Surrey or failing that to his nephew Richard son of James.

h.4.3.7 Phillip Marchington1736., Sittinglow. Could have emigrated to north America as there is a mention of a Philip being a merchant in North America. If so he married on the 12 Nov1776, to a Eliz' Barge at Christ Church PHILADELPHIA.
