h.4.1.1 Baptised.    23 Jan 1803.    John Marchington of Sittinglow. John died on the 1st Dec 1805.PR

Now it gets some what confusing : -

John's wife Martha died  and as such John after the death of his wife married his deceased second cousins (another John Marchington from the next door farm) wife, called Betty Marchington maiden name being Pott on the 28 December 1813 both being described as widows, marriage by license. They had the following children:
h.4.1.2 Born.  23 Aug 1812, bpt 06 Aug.   John Marchington. of Sittinglow John & Betty. Chinley Chapel records. needs rechecking. Should be bastard. (Obviously he wanted to name his son after himself being a family tradition which was confusing in sort this section out).
h.4.1.3 Baptised.   17 Jul 1814.      Phillip Marchington .    son of John & Betty of Halsteads, Farmer. PR.  This Philip is mention in William. B. Buntings Book and is confirmed as being the son of John & Betty of sittinglow.

h.4.1.# Baptised. 14 May 1820.   Martha Marchington.     at Chapel   1841 census working as servant  at Highlee Farm.  Possibly correct parents.

h.4.1. # Baptised.   22 May 1828.   Hannah Marchington.      at Chapel.  1841 census working as servant  at Thoneylee Farm Possibly correct parents.

It would seem John moved to under Eccles to farm with his first wife Martha and later move to Halsteads. Leaving Philip, his brother who took over the lease and running of the  farm at Sittinglow. After the death of his first wife and remarriage to his second cousins widow being  Betty, John move to Halsteads farm (next door to Halsteads farm) and took over the running of the farm until his step son John was old enough to run the farm.

John died on the 28th May 1828 age 59.  leaving no Will.
Betty after the death of her husband resided with her bachelor son Joseph to her first husband John to which they show up in the 1841 census.

Thus Betty had two sons living called John who were of course half brothers both their fathers also called John!

Philip died on the 13 Jan 1908. Philip provided William Braylesford Bunting with the story of the local church election were he and his grandfather Mr Potts walked down from Plumpton to vote.  Picture of his head stone in Chapel church yard.

John Marchington.1837. Looks like John had left home at the age of 14 and as such doesn't show up in the 1851 census for Chapel & Buxton district. He also is nor present in the 1851 census for Manchester. However he does show up finally at Tranmere, Birkenhead, Cheshire. He married a Mary Ann French (nee Hinsell) a widow at St. Catherine's church, Tranmere, Birkenhead. on July 7, 1884. Banns were said.  John's age is stated as 47, Mary's age is stated as 48. John's father is stated as Philip Marchington occupation Book Keep. Mary's father is stated as Ricahard Hinsell occupation Labourer now deceased.  John's hand writing is very neat whilst Mary put X for her mark.. Witness's being John Cook X for his mark & Elizabeth Hoster.

John was killed on the 16 of March 1887. He fell under the wheels of a cab.  There was a coroner's report after an inquest.  Mary Ann possibly moved to Bellingham, Newcastle dying in 1906. This however needs to be check by obtaining her death certificate.  They lived at 22 Queen's Place, Tranmere. John was employed as an excavator according to his marriage certificate. There is no trace of John in the 1881 census. Probably due to him being a bachelor and moving around the county or local region. He must have stayed in touch with his family to have noted his fathers change of occupation.
