Picture of his head stone in Chapel church yard. John Marchington.1837. Looks like John had left home at the age of 14 and as such doesn't show up in the 1851 census for Chapel & Buxton district. He also is nor present in the 1851 census for Manchester. However he does show up finally at Tranmere, Birkenhead, Cheshire. He married a Mary Ann French (nee Hinsell) a widow at St. Catherine's church, Tranmere, Birkenhead. on July 7, 1884. Banns were said. John's age is stated as 47, Mary's age is stated as 48. John's father is stated as Philip Marchington occupation Book Keep. Mary's father is stated as Ricahard Hinsell occupation Labourer now deceased. John's hand writing is very neat whilst Mary put X for her mark.. Witness's being John Cook X for his mark & Elizabeth Hoster. John was killed on the 16 of March 1887. He fell under the wheels of a cab. There was a coroner's report after an inquest. Mary Ann possibly moved to Bellingham, Newcastle dying in 1906. This however needs to be check by obtaining her death certificate. They lived at 22 Queen's Place, Tranmere. John was employed as an excavator according to his marriage certificate. There is no trace of John in the 1881 census. Probably due to him being a bachelor and moving around the county or local region. He must have stayed in touch with his family to have noted his fathers change of occupation.
