Henry is stated as farming at Town End, Chapel. Being near the old Warmbrook
barn. Which was a

This barn is also mentioned in the bok titled; Chucking Joe, Jane's possibly maiden name being

Sittinglow. The farm on Sittinglow is being farmed by Joseph Needham & his family around 1861(census), 17acres only. Joseph being the former labourer at Sittinglow Farm to Philip Marchington Johns uncle. Possibly John move to Plumpton to farm on his own before the death of his father Henry. Philip possible leased Sittinglow farm before 1851 to Joseph Needham and then retired to Chapel - Townend next to his brother Henry. Its possible that Philip only leased the farm himself from his brother Henry or Philip sold it to Henry which ever it ends up in the hands of John as later John takes over the farm as show in the 1881 census. John was also a carpenter and probably made a better living out of this then his farming as the farm had been reduced in size and now was only 37 acres which will not return a profit but would sustain a family. Now Johns younger brother Henry seems to have inherited their fathers farm called Warmbrook House. In the Registry of Persons Entitled to vote 1868-1869 John is stated as of Sittinglow and the farm is Freehold also hes stated as owning houses in Townend. now there is family knowledge that the family did construct houses along the main road at Townend as mentioned by Bryan Marchington also along the top end. The deeds for Sittinglow farm contain the names Machington as previous owners. At the end of the farm 'Don states, that their is still a very boggy field where a spring opens up. This could be a mispronunciation of Hallam. It is without doubt that the name Hallam is of Danish origin, as such it may date back to a time when the Danish settlers came to this area of Derbyshire in 940. A.D. ?? - further checks on going... Sources. Geoff Clure: grandson inlaw to Frances E S Marchington.1894. : My wife's Marchington Line through her Gran Frances, we were aware of the Farm at Luzley as we used to live around the corner from there a few years ago (only 2 mile away now) and the Hare & Hounds there was my local (the only pub in Luzley), although we could not pinpoint exactly which farm it was.The twins Frances and Ruth were like peas in a pod even at the ripe old age when I knew them, but I was not aware that they had Twin Brothers. My wife remembers John William as in the photo but didn't know he was a twin, (twins must run through the line as my daughter gave birth to twins last year, and our friend Madeline (the other Marchington Line) has twin brothers. |
