NOTE: This link for this John born 12 Aug 1812 may not be correct John as mentioned in the census returns in that he may not be the son of a John of Sittinglow given new evidence by Anne Welding, who's researching her Marchington link through the Blackburn area. I assume that John Marchington. born 12 Aug 1812. was the first Marchington to live in the Blackburn area. John was born at Sittinglow farm, Dove Holes, Chapel-en-le-Frith. John married Ann Kay on the 9th Dec 1833 at Mottram church. The entry states that they are both of this parish. Witness Joe Elliot. Ann couldn't write. Ann was born in Darwen, Lancs. I would guess that John met Ann in and around Mottram parish probably working in the Mills Broadbottom in the Etherow valley being in Mottram parish. Mottram is on the road to East Lancashire from Chapel.
Possible other John & Betty father of the below John of 1813. John Marchington.
1812. Shows
up in the 1851 census as follows: Thomas St is still standing and are Weavers cottages, but their now finely preserved set in Compstall Country Park, incidentally Compstall is a one hour walk too Mottram over Wernethlow or via Charlesworth , Broadbottom on the old road. Second picture of Thomas st. It looks like John & Ann emigrated to New York, around 1840 as their son Peter was born there. They must have returned shortly afterwards. Possibly John was a first cousin to Philip Marchington who also went out to America around the same time or shortly after John that's if John is the son of John & Betty In
the 1881 census
the family show up in Over Darwen. Obviously they have moved
to the area were Ann was born so there must have been a family connection here on
Ann's side. Ann Marchington died in 1883, her given age is 73. Henry Marchington.1831. Compstall. Henry married Ellen in 1871in Blackburn. It looks like They had no child between them. 51 Moss St, Blackburn, Lancashire. 1881

page 5 Henry Marchington died in 1898 given age being 67. In the 1901 census Ellen shows up as follows living with her
son from her first marriage:
Thomas Marchington.1835.
Compstal. Thomas could have moved to Chesterfield and married a
Elizabeth (?death index). Her given year of birth being 1840. They possibly
married in Chesterfied in 1865 and had their children John there in 1866 &
Mary Ann in 1870 events exist for these. Margaret their other daughter was born
in Blackburn in 1874 so they must have moved back into the area. Its
probable that Thomas was working as a miner as there were pits in the
Chesterfield/ Whittington area such pits in Whittington closed down c1867 due
to flooding as such this could be the reason for Thomas and family moving back
to Darwen. 1881 census 25 Tower
