There is conflicting evidence as to who fathered Amos and two
other siblings as these three children are not mention in a Henry's
Marchington's Will of Chapel but are mentioned in the Parish Register as being of Henry the younger
'boxon'. I
tend to follow the theory that Amos was the son of Henry of 'B/Coxon' (Buxton?) possibly
being a farm near Bagshaw on the parish boarder of Peak forest parish. This Henry possibly is
the son of Old Henry as described in Peak Parish register. This branch of the family were mining
lead ore around the Castleton area, they must link back to the Chapel branch but
at what link I do not know but would guess its before Henry
b1664 as most of his children seem to continue naming their children with distinct
traditional names also a George described of LOADS which is he
term used for LOADS MOOR as we know now as the EAVES & SITTINGLOW
areas to which the Chapel Marchington's were living at the time such being
Henery1662 son of Philip of Eaves, son of John of Eaves. clearly both Adam
& George must hail from this line be it Philip or John. This branch will start with cm - Chapel Milton branch at the first proven link being: cm.1. Amos Marchington.c1744. Chapel.
Husbandman. Married Hannah Clayton at
Chapel on the 17 Jan 1765. There is no baptism for an Amos Marchington or burial in Chapel parish records that I have searched. Its probable that the family was living in and around Chapel Milton. Amos & Hannah Marchington had the following children
baptised. Amos left no Will. (There have been no Marchington wills proved at Glossop). The place of residence being Bagshaw hamlet, a short walk from Chapel Milton. What's interesting is that Amos's children's baptisms were not recorded in Chapel parish book unlike other Marchington entries who were baptised at Chinley Chapel which were always duplicated in Chapel parish register. This further fuels the evidence that this family resided outside of the Chapel parish boundary and only attended Chinley Chapel because it was the nearest non-conformist chapel or it was the most popular one in the area, which it was at the time.
cm.1.#. Hannah Marchington. 1767. Peak Forest. cm.1.1. Henry Marchington.1769. Chapel. cm.1.#. Sarah Marchington.1772. Chapel. cm.1.#. Ann Marchington.1774. Peak Forest. cm.1.#. Rebekah Marchington.1776. Peak Forest. cm1.2. George Marchington.1779. Married Ann Hall on the 22 Sept 1806 at
Glossop. Ann was baptised on the 13 Jan 1786 at Chinley Independent Chapel
parents being Thomas & Rachel Hall. They had the following children: It looks like George & Ann were living in the New Mills
area at the time of their daughter Nelly's birth, this area being a Mill
town weaving and dying cotton cloth. cm.1.2.3 Adam Marchington.1813.
Chapel Milton. Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1538-1940 cm.1.2.2 Thomas Marchington.1810.Chapel Milton. Emigrated to America cm.1.2.1 Amos Marchington.1807.Chapel Milton. Amos doesn't show up in the St Catherine's index for Deaths. Its possible that he died before 1837 or emigrated, however no evidence to emigration as been found nor is he to be found in the 1841 census. cm.1.2.4 Joseph Marchington.1816. Chapel Milton. cm.1.2.# Rebbeca Marchington.1819. Chapel Milton. cm.1.2.# Nelly Marchington.1823. Chapel Milton.
