Halstead Farm, Dove Holes, Chapel en le Frith. 1.1 John Marchington.Bpt on the 26 Oct 1829 at Halsteads . Oldest son of John Marchington.1801 & Hannah Hallam.1801 *of Halstead Farm.
John
& his
brother
Joseph
carried on
the family
farm after
the death
of their
father in
1869. Both
were
farming 30
acres of
land each,
so it is
evident
that the
farm land
at least
was split
between
them. In
the 1881
census,
Joseph's
wife,
Martha
is stated
as farming
20 acres
at
Halstead.
After the
death of
Joseph.. In 1880 John is recorded as owning 34 acres of land at Hallsheads with a gross estimated rent value of 218 & 11 s. His brother Samuel is recorded as owning 12 acres of land with a gross estimated rent value of 23 & 4 s. Samuels holding being regarded at the time of a small holder rather than farmer. Joseph is not mention as owning any land in the register how ever in the 1881 census his wife is a farmer of 22 acres. Therefore John's fathers estate could have been 68 acres in size. Possibly the 22 acres which Martha, Joseph's held being rented land. John
Married
Ann
Bagshaw. possible in late 1854 possible after the birth of the first
child as there is no other John registered as married some 4 years before the
birth of their first child. Ann Bagshaw

spoken
with
Margaret
Ann we
have come
to the
conclusion
that John Samuel 'her great
grandfather,
spent
a
holiday on
the Isle
of Man and
being a tailor
he
inevitably
took an interest
in tailor
shops on
the
island, no doubt
to keep up
with what
the competition
was doing,
as such he
must have
meet his
future
wife while
'checking
the competition',
as Sarah
Emily was
working as
a 'hat
maker'.
