Need to visit Stockport records office for above plus other districts in
Stockport to which more Marchingtons will be present.
Its looking like after the enclosures acts of the early 1700's and 1800's combining
with the take off, of the Industrial revolution, to which Manchester &
Sheffield were magnets to people with no land. Many Marchington's migrated to the
Manchester area & some to Sheffield. Possibly the first being from a descendent of
Henry of 1662.
This could account for the mis-spelling / corruption of the name Marchington
in to Marchinton (to which we have no doubt all encountered when someone spells our
surname today). In order to check this further a full extract of the 1841
census for the Sheffield areas needs to be done. and a further trace to parish
records relevant to the 1841 census.
