4.1. Charles
Marchington.1855. Chapel. There is no marriage or death for this
Charles. He is not featured in the 1881 census for G Briton nor in the 1901
census. However I have a death for him in 1874 in my notes? Need to check
1871 census to see if he is featured.
4.2. John Marchington.1857.
Married a lady called Hannah (? ).
They seem to have had no children. John is not in the Derbyshire census of
1891. Its possible that They married in High Peak as both of them are from
the area. Hannah died in
1925 at Settle, Yorkshire and John died at Settle in 1939, given age at death
being 83.

Samuel died in 1933 at St..Asaph, Wales. There is no death for a Susan
and her whereabouts in the census is not known.

Married
a Mr. Emery in 1942 at Leeds.
Thomas M
Samuel M
Arthur Leslie M
Madeline Emmery, who's Mother was Jean Marchington dtr of
Arthur Leslie M., son of Samuel M, son of Thomas M, son of John M (Born
1802). But in this line I am having trouble with Samuel who's age on
Marriage Cert is a couple of years out from the Census ages, although
everything else seems Ok.... bit of a puzzle the Marchingtons around there,
I found both these 2 families in Sittinglow and Halsteads farmsteads (right
next to each other on map) but can't make a family connexion between them.
Notes to Frank M concerning
above:
Have re-check census as such I have sent you the
original copies attached to
this email.
Samuel is living with son Arthur T Marchington (incidentally Arthur's given
middle name at birth is Leslie) and his brother Harry H Marchington for some
reason stated as boarder, must have been a error on the part of the
emulator.
Winifred M Marchington . I have no birth for her in the national index. Also
there is no girl born around 1897 with the initial for the first name
beginning with M? nor any girl born /registered in Oldham for the same date?
I may have missed her when I extracted the births but I doubt that so I'm at
a lost on that.
There is one death entry for a Winifred Marchington who died age 72 at
Northwich, Cheshire, in 1970, this could fit Winifred's correct age but I
doubt its her. Having check the marriages there is a Winifred who married in
1926 in Oldham to a chap called Mr Berney so that's a possibility.
Now there was also a Winifred Marchington born in Oldham in 1905? so the
above marriage could also be this Winifred's as the marriage entry offers no
middle initial to which I know you have to give your full name when
marrying??
What's interesting is the fact that Winifred M Marchington is living in the
South of England in Herefordshire with a family called Cooper, as follows:
1901 census RG13 2492/17/7/39
Address: The Whyle, Puddlestone, Herefordshire.
Geo Cooper head age 51 born Worcestor Grocers
& Provisions dealer
Eliz Cooper wife age 48 born Puddlestone
James Ludge Cooper (possibly Eliz maiden name) son age 5 born Puddlestone
Winifred M Marchington vistor age 4 born Oldham
What connection this family have I do not know it could be like you said,
she could have been a sick child and was looked after by some family
member?? but there is no death for her in the index could she have gone to
Canada???
There is no Susan Marchington in the 1901 census nor is there a death for
any Susan Marchington in the entire Death index ??? Also there are no
further Marchington children after the year 1911 who were born to a mother
carrying the surname Griffiths.
Hi Rob
Winnifred was born Winifred Mary 2/4 1896 and registered as 8D656 Oldham.
She died 2/4 1902 age 6 yrs and registered as 8D413 Oldham.
I have the certificates since Joseph b 1866 and Sarah E. Wiggins his wife had a daughter
Winnifred born 4/4 1905 and registered as 8D607. She married
Reginald
Birney (Berney) 4/4 1926 which is registered as 8D1336 Oldham.. She died
1973 at Oldham.
Susan Griffiths and Samuel's marriage is recorded in 2/4 1892 as *D 996
Oldham. She was 21 years old. He died at St. Asaph 4/4 1933 (11B361)
but I
never could find a record for Susan's death or remarriage.
As for Eliza, she married Thomas b3/4 1868. She was a widow with a
daughter
Dorothy who had been born in Scotland in 1886. Two boys, Percy b 1893 and
Philip Edwin bJanuary 1897 and a daughter Betha b 1894 were all Canadians.
It must be Phipip Edwin who was with his Mother visiting in April 1901 unless
they had a son Ernest born in 1897 that I have never heard of. There is no
death recorded for Ernest that I could find.
All very interesting. Maybe you will be able to turn something else up.
