Research regarding branches of the family who's name is spelt differently being:

Marchinton, Marchenton, Marchanton & Marchinson.

Yorkshire/ Australian Marchinton

In the 1881 census for England & Wales there are 19 Marchinton's mentioned, being in three locations: Lancashire, Yorkshire & High Peak. The High Peak entries are most defiantly misspellings of Marchington.

Its interesting to note that in the 1891 census there are no Marchinton's mentioned in the High Peak area of Derbyshire. Confirming the mis-pronunciation by the auditors.

Presently, there are only 7 individuals of Marchinton's in the UK. Four residing in Castleford, Yorkshire, obviously one family, one in Leeds, one in Selby North Yorkshire & the last one in Nottingham. They are the descendants of John Marchington..

It is probable therefore that the Machinton's of Lancashire were misspellings of Marchington and the Marchinton's of Derbyshire (Peak Forest) are the ancestors of the present day Marchinton's who live in Yorkshire and Australia.

There are no Marchenton's or  Marchinson's or Marchanton's recorded in the UK today. Ref: Royal Mail Post code Address data.
