Copied from the Church Register by Mr James Hyde, the then Church Warden on behalf of  Harold Marchington who floated around these extracts along with book extracts from William B-Buntings book on Chapel en le Frith to family members. I had a copy in 1979 and a lot of family have the same in and around greater Manchester/ High Peak area

Dove Holes St Pauls.  Erected in 1879 being a chapel of ease in the Chapel Parish.
In memory of John Marchington first churchwarden also Ann his wife late of Hallsteads, This tablet was given by their sons Sept 1899.
b21.  Arthur Leanard  son of  John & Elsie Marchington of Dove Holes died 22 Feb 1928 age 7 also John above died died 16 March 1961 age 65 Elsie died 8 March 1986 age 90.

St Michael Parish Church, Mottram en Longdendale, Cheshire. MF41/1-2-4-7
Mottram parish register is the earliest register I have found a Marchington event in. The register was first started in 1570 and its very difficult to read. 

Marriage
19 Feb 1570.  Nicholas Marchenton married   Alice Bowre.  (I couldn't find this in the original register. But the IGI has it as this, also Alice left a will deposited in Cheshire Records office of which I have a copy.
9 Dec 1833. John Marchington married Ann Kay. Both of this parish. Witness: Joe Elliot. (Ann could not write).
9 Apr 1837.  Sarah Marchington married William Warbutton. Both of this parish. Witness: John Mansland.

12 Dec 1630.   John Marchunton     son of John Marchunton or Bretland  (I could not find this entry in the original register but the IGI have it as this).
2 Mar 1633.   William Marchinton  son of John Marchinton or Bretland.

(notes: Nicholas Marchenton is interesting in that he may be a direct relation to the titled family of Montgomeries of Cubley, who started a junior family branch who took the name Marchington after being given lordship of the manner. There was a will for an Alice Marchington, spinster of Godley as such Nicholas could have fathered a daughter this Alice is the mother of the 3 boys above who named the father as a local land owner called Bretland).

The Marchington's were late comers to New Mills.  Philip Marchington's Children from Mellor were one of the first Marchington's to settle here around 1890. John  & Martha held a pew here.
